Yesterday the way the Indian cricket team batted in a test match, reminded me of playing cricket games. Especially the 2007 version of EA Sports Cricket. They were scoring runs at such a fast pace. The team broke the quickest to 50, 100, 150, 200 and 250 runs. Setting up a cracking last day of the test match.

I haven’t played a better cricket game than 2007 to date. The gameplay, commentary, and music are so good. I remember gradually increasing the difficulty and then becoming better at timing the shots.

The first ever game I played was “Road Rash”. I can still remember the moments from the game. The music, the bikes, the fights, the police chasing you. Then there was “NFS II” the first split-screen game which me and my sister played together. My love for McLaren cars started from there. It had nice tracks. Another one was “Wolfenstein 3D” my first ever shooting game, I loved finding the secret rooms. Taking the elevator to the next level, was a nice touch.

As the years progressed came other great games like “GTA Vice City”, “NFS Most Wanted”, multiple “FIFA” games, a couple of great “cricket” games (as mentioned above), “The Tomb Raider series” and many more.

Each game had its charm and offered its own set of memories to cherish. Like in the case of “GTA Vice City” I cannot forget the helicopter mission. In “NFS Most Wanted” along with the great graphics the police chases were exciting. “FIFA” is a game I have seen evolve over the years and become so real now, actually over-real at times. Before I remember a player’s body coming out of the net :D.

Recently I have been playing games like “Chants of Sennaar”, “Zelda: Breath of the Wild”, “Hollow Knight” and “Pokemon”. Though for the last few weeks, I haven’t played anything, hope to get back to it soon. A few of the games I’m looking forward to playing are “Hogwarts Legacy”, “Last of Us” (season 1 of the series was great), “God of War” and a couple of Indie titles.

I have enjoyed playing games over the years and I hope to continue doing so. It’s a great way to relax and have fun.

A few movies/series/books that I have enjoyed watching/reading on video games are -

  • High Score (Netflix series)
  • The Last of Us (series)
  • The Making of Prince of Persia(book by creator Jordan Mechner)
  • Blood, Sweat and Pixels(book)
  • Tetris (movie Apple TV+)
  • Half-Life documentary Youtube
