Yesterday a Lego car set got delivered. I’m excited to build it. Cars have always fascinated me.

My earliest memory of a car is my mother buying me a model car. I think the set contained around 15 cars and I bought one out of it every week/month(I don’t remember the frequency). I remember that made me happy.

Over the years I have gradually collected a fair chunk of them. Then “Hot Wheels” cars came which were better build quality but the earlier cars were much closer to me. The core memory associated with it is something I will cherish always. Mother and kid walking down to the shop in the nice sunshine of Pune.

As I mentioned in here racing games were among my favorite. Even my sister loved those games and we played them together a lot. Our first multiplayer game was “NFS 2 SE”.

Then came a game that everyone might not know “Walt Disney World Quest: Magical Racing Tour”. It was one of the most amazing games I have played. In today’s world, a similar game would be “Mario Kart”, but not as good as the Disney one. Thinking about that time, the 3(me, my sister & my cousin) us playing, brings a smile to my face.

Later on “NFS Most Wanted” was another great one. Writing about this makes me want to play them again.

All of this made me love cars more. Once I started working I resumed collecting model cars. More recently those are now Lego sets small and a few big ones. Putting them together is like a therapeutic activity for me as I touched upon in here. A few of those sit on top of my CPU cabinet.

Looking forward to exploring more things related to cars.

A few of my favorite books/movies which helped me explore the world of cars are:

  • How to Build a Car by Adrian Newey - I learned so much about the making of cars in the world of racing.
  • Rush (movie) - Amazing, I go back and watch clips of it sometimes.
  • Ford vs Ferrari (movie) - Great, superb acting too.
  • F1 Netflix series - Good. I have watched the initial few seasons, not the latest ones.
  • Art of Racing in the Rain (book/movie) - This one is way more than just cars, narrated by a dog. Both are good, read the book first.
  • Cars movie series - The first one is my favorite.
