I feel incredibly grateful to have access to the internet, amazing books, and, lately, the ability to send off my questions to an AI model. If you want to explore something new, what a time to be alive!
What prompted me to write this post is how incredible it is that I can read and watch content created by brilliant nerds and learn from them.
I’ve been reading “An Immense World: How Animal Senses Reveal the Hidden Realms Around Us” by Ed Yong, and it has completely blown my mind so far. The book explores the groundbreaking research of scientists who have uncovered the hidden sensory worlds of animals. Books like this make me realize how much we take for granted about the world around us due to the limitations of our own senses.
Some of the other things I’ve enjoyed reading and watching include Veritasium, Kurzgesagt – In a Nutshell, xkcd comics, explainxkcd(which helps me understand the comics better). The quality of content these creators put out is just amazing.
Recently, I’ve been watching interviews with the creators of shows like Bandish Bandits, Paatal Lok, Severance, Silo, and Black Warrant. It’s fascinating to get a behind-the-scenes look at how these shows were made and the thought process behind them. I hope we continue to see more shows and movies with great writing and execution—where creators take their time to craft something meaningful instead of churning out content just for the sake of it.
Special shoutout to Jaideep Ahlawat for his amazing acting in Paatal Lok again this season.
I especially loved how the Bandish Bandits team talked about why it took them so long to release the second season. They put tremendous effort into every aspect—whether it was the writing, the music (which is amazing), or the acting (with actors learning instruments and observing singers to capture the nuances). The attention to detail in the look and feel of the show is truly commendable.
And finally, onto engineering—something very close to my heart.
I’ve been reading “Operating Systems: Three Easy Pieces” by Remzi H. Arpaci-Dusseau and Andrea C. Arpaci-Dusseau. It’s such an incredible book so far. The text is easy to read and follow, with great examples and references. My favorite part is the homework problems at the end of each chapter, which have really helped me grasp the concepts better.
A huge thanks to all these nerds for putting in the effort to make such amazing content.
I may extend this post in the future—there are just too many fascinating fields to explore, and so many great nerds to learn from!
